Disclosure: In exchange for social buzz, Blo Blow Dry Bar provided me complimentary services. Opinions expressed are absolutely my own.
I’m not huge on straightening my hair, but I’m loving the blow-dry bar trend that is sweeping the US. I fell in love with The Dry Bar in NYC, so naturally I was excited to be invited to a special preview of the newest blow-dry bar in town – Blo Blow Dry Bar.
Launched in 2007, Blo’s mission is to provide catwalk quality blowouts quickly and affordably. With over 45 locations across North America and the Phillippines, it’s no surprise Blo chose Orlando as its latest location. Blo Orlando is conveniently located on N. Magnolia, on the first floor of the Skyhouse Luxury Apartments Tower and directly across from the Orange County Courthouse.
WASH. BLOW. GO.
For only $40, your locks are shampooed and blow-dried in the style of your choosing from Blo’s Hair Menu. You don’t need to make an appointment to get a blowout at Blo, just walk in as you are, whenever you want and walk out flawless. Need a little relaxation? Add a head massage for $10.
My Blo Experience
I popped in for my blowout on my lunch break around noon. Champagne and cute, mini cupcakes abounded in the packed salon. Due to the festivities, I waited around 15-20 minutes before my stylist was ready for me.
My hair is severely curly so I knew it would take a bit to straighten and curl since I chose the “Holly Would” style from Blo’s hair menu. After a quick shampoo (around 5 minutes), my stylist blow dried for about an hour. I thought it would take a little less time since I had just chopped my hair from mid-back length to shoulder length, but I was wrong. I’m not sure if the blow dryer wasn’t powerful enough or if my stylist wasn’t experienced with my hair texture, but it took a really long time to get my hair straight.
After about an hour of blow drying, my stylist used a curling iron to curl my hair and she pinned them into place. Once the curls cooled, she unpinned them and worked them into relaxed, but voluptuous curls. Total styling time was around two hours.
The final product was cute, but it didn’t last very long in the Florida humidity. Although my hair wasn’t easily tamed, I still had a great time at Blo. Maybe if your hair is less crazy than mine (and if you pick a simpler style) your allotted style time will be less. To be honest, I still prefer my service at The Dry Bar. Maybe it’s because my stylist there killed it. My curls lasted all weekend, whereas my curls from Blo only lasted a few hours :/.
I’d probably still try Blo out again … unless Dry Bar finally comes to town ;). Blo has some great deals going on, including the Besties deal going on this month – $30 blowouts for you and your bestie. Definitely check Blo out, especially if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of making appointments at your salon. Give your hairdresser a break – blowout bars don’t count as cheating on them =).
